Cataract remains the most common cause of preventable blindness in the world. Surgical techniques have advanced in recent years to enable visual rehabilitation by the same day or within the next few days without the need for stitches or a large incision.

Our advanced equipment incorporates reliable Swiss technology to enable no stitch small incision phacoemulsification to be performed under Zeiss operating microscopy with simultaneous refractive correction.

The majority of cataract procedures may be safely and comfortably provided under topical (eye drop) anaesthesia. Hence patients will not be required to receive eye injections or to undergo general anaesthesia unless specially requested.

Cataract surgery may be carried out as a day procedure in the comfortable operating suite located on the first floor of the WYCEC. The suite includes entertainment and educational video viewing for accompanying family/friends of patients.

The intraocular lenses available at WYCEC cater to a wide range of individual financial and specific ocular needs. We generally provide foldable monofocal (Acrysof) and multifocal (Restor) lenses imported from overseas and marketed by the well known Alcon corporation (link to www.alcon.com)

Our diagnostic suite located on the ground floor is able to provide special services and testing that includes:

	Pterygium - Prof Wong is highly skilled in performing pterygium excision under topical anaesthesia (no injections required) with conjunctival graft. With the new technique, the chance for recurrence is less than 5% (as compared to recurrence rate of 50% performed with older surgical methods).
	Conjunctival Naevus - a common condition which can rarely turn malignant; excision can be performed under topical anaesthesia (no injections required).
